Another performance full of class and commitment stretched Berwick's unbeaten league run, but an early goal was crucial for both sides and it was Berwick who claimed it inside two minutes.

Fifers' goalkeeper John Dodds failed to hang on to a 25 yarder from Jay Shields and Kevin Gordon crashed the loose ball into the roof of the net. For the next 20 minutes Rangers were tremendous and might have added more.

East Fife finally settled and worked hard, but Berwick hit them with a two-goal blast at the start of the second half.

Gareth Hutchison scored the first after Kevin Gordon ran on to a long ball which eluded two visiting defenders and gave him a great pass. Within five minutes Hutchison returned the favour. He made a great run down the left, turned inside and supplied a low pass which Gordon steered into the far corner.

Rangers suffered a blow when the commanding Mark Cowan limped off at half-time, but skipper David Murie switched to a central role and did very well. East Fife came into the game in the last five minutes but failed to break through.
