Airdrie close in on play-offs

Two second-half goals moved Airdrie a step closer to the Scottish Second Division play-off places with a crucial 2-0 win over East Fife.

Both sides were on level points going into the game but failed to take advantage of good opportunities in a goalless first half.

Defender David White could only head Robert Sloan's corner straight at Grant Adam after 14 minutes for the visitors while Scott Morton missed the target with a 31st-minute volley from inside the area for Jimmy Boyle's side.

The deadlock was broken six minutes into the second half when Sean Lynch found the top corner with a left-footed effort from the edge of the area.

Substitute Jamie Bain then confirmed the home side's victory with a right-footed strike two minutes from time.
